Job Summary:

This is a .4 part time position working 16 hours a week. Tuesdays and Thursdays 8am-5pm, hours may be flexible.

The Deputy Surveyor is responsible for assisting the County Surveyor in the effective operations of the Rock County Surveyor’s Office. These duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining departmental information databases, filing and organizing various types of maps, plats and U.S. Public Survey Monument Record Tie Sheets, providing field work support, and performing records research and supplying information to the general public, private land surveyors, units of government, public utilities, and other county departments.

Main Duties:

  • Maintains U.S. Public Land Survey Monument Record tie sheets including the horizontal and vertical data shown thereon, (hard copies & database) and Plats of Survey.
    • Scans paper maps and records as part of the records modernization initiative
    • Retrieves various documents and records from files
    • Performs courthouse research in those departments where records are available
    • Compiles, summarize and files field notes and data.
    • Reads maps and plans
  • Assists County Surveyor with fieldwork.
    • Assists in performing land surveys for maintenance, location and relocation of section corners.
    • Assists in performing various land surveys for other County departments including, but not limited to; boundary surveys, construction staking and control surveys.
  • Assumes the responsibility of the office in the absence of the Surveyor.
    • Responds to public record requests.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Geographic Information Systems or Land Records are preferred
  • An Associates or Bachelor’s degree will be given preference. However, equivalent combination of training and experience will be also be considered in lieu of college degree.
  • Graduation from high school
