Job Summary:
The Student Worker Para Professional Sr. position is a limited, part-time position. The anticipated start date isSeptember 6, 2017 and is expected to end June 30, 2019. During the academic year, you will work 20 hours per week. Within normal business hours (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), your schedule can be flexible in order to accommodate your classes.
This position will assist MnGeo and agency staff with ongoing Geographic Information System (GIS) projects. Responsibilities will include: building the geospatial data framework needed to support state agency enterprise data needs; assisting with the review, creation and addition of processes, data, and metadata to the Minnesota Geospatial Commons; assisting with other projects as needed.

Education (Student Worker Eligibility):
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be “off” for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college program as a junior, senior or graduate student
- Academic programs can include Computer Science, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Management or Forestry, Urban / Regional Planning, or Management Information Systems with some course work that emphasizes GIS technologies (Introduction to GIS, Advanced GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, and Introduction to Cartography)
Experience:
- Experience with MS Office Excel and Word (2010 or 2013 preferred)
- Experience or class work with desktop GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS
