Job Summary & Duties:

Assist in the management and improvement of multiple Water Division IT systems. Assist in updating data in the SWIMS, 24k Hydro and Register of Waterbodies (ROW) databases. Work to incorporate GIS data into Water Division interactive web map viewers. Provide cartographic solutions when needed. Work with DNR partners to refine and develop data standards used by DNR staff and the WI Lakes Partnership. Provide support and training to DNR staff as well as other agency staff and volunteers. 

  • 50% – Assist in updating GIS data in Water Division IT systems. Provide updates to 24k Hydro Database on as needed basis. Update and add new data to Register of Waterbodies (ROW). Enter Lake and invasive species GIS data into SWIMS. 
  • 20% – Provide Cartographic products for DNR staff and WI Lakes Partners. Create and update data used in the Lakes and AIS Viewer. Create cartographic products for existing and new Lakes and AIS projects. 
  • 20% – Assist in improving multiple Water Division IT systems  Assist in the creation of GIS data standards for Lake and AIS grant deliverables  Develop and implement QA/QC criteria to evaluate new and existing GIS data  Provide support and trainings as needed on use of GIS tools 
  • 10% – Coordinate the activity of the Geographic Names Council  Develop agendas, organize meeting logistics and produce minutes and records of discussions Receive and respond to inquiries and requests for name changes, conduct research and help prepare recommendations for the Council

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with volunteers and DNR Partners. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and ESRI Desktop Suite required. 
  • Working knowledge of map services, web mapping and python are a plus.
