Position Summary & Duties:
This position will be responsible for leading the completion of a newly created GIS data viewer depicting statewide facilities regulated by the Waste and Materials Management Program (i.e. landfills, historic waste locations, hazardous waste facilities, etc.).
This position will be responsible for a variety of job duties including, but not limited to the following. Complete the development of a newly created GIS data viewer depicting statewide landfill and historic waste facility locations compatible with the department’s Surface Water DataViewer. Use Arcmap software to onscreen digitize existing landfill facilities point/polygon features. Assist the Waste and Materials Management Program GIS Team members in creating a single, comprehensive database depicting GIS data about various facilities that are regulated by the program (landfills, recycling and drop-off facilities, solid and hazardous facilities, etc.). Create an organized documented system for continued data maintenance to facilitate longterm system integrity. Obtain and digitally convert applicable site maps (e.g., plan view documents, engineering drawings) contained in official Waste and Materials Management Program regional files located throughout the state. Communicate with statewide program staff to retrieve files through electronic means for use in the digitization process. Support the Waste Registry Project through the development of GIS data relevant to historic waste locations. Enhance existing GIS applications and data services by leveraging the processes and efforts that have already been done in the division to gain efficiencies in moving to a modern GIS system. Create new map services and applications as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Skills and knowledge in aerial photography interpretation and familiarity with GIS tools including ArcMap 10 software.
- Ability to utilize paper and digital file systems to retrieve relevant data sources.

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
