Job Summary:

The GIS Specialist/CAD Drafter’s primary function is to manage incoming stream of data from multiple sources and in multiple formats, and produce a comprehensive report package for clients.  The GIS Specialist/CAD Drafter will also provide GIS mapping support and assist in the development and improvement of data collection, organization, and presentation process. The following is a broad overview of the duties and responsibilities:

  1. Create professional pipe network maps & final client deliverables
  2. Process and analyze data from field crews
  3. Become NASSCO certified in pipe assessment
  4. Create databases from archived miscellaneous data formats

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organization, review, and compilation of site condition assessment data. Sources of data may include video files, GPS survey points and field notes.
  • Generate maps of pipe networks, using field data and mapping/data management software such as ESRI Products, AutoCAD and WinCan.
  • Ensure all field data needed to generate a comprehensive map and database of client’s pipe network is gathered while production crews are on-site.
  • Follow company safety regulations, standard operating procedures and quality standards.
  • Assist in continuous development and documentation of standard operating procedures for department assessments.
  • Ability to travel via automobile and airplane to work from job sites, travel by automobile and airplane is required. Approximately 10% of work time may be spent away from home office, traveling or on-site.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Experience: This position requires a certificate or degree from a college or university in CAD or GIS related program.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, blueprints, and site and/or plumbing plans. Ability to read, analyze and interpret civil construction plans and specifications, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with other team members. Ability to present final products to internal management and to customers.
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid, supported conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply well-developed critical thinking skills to problem solving is a must for an applicant to be successful in this position.
  • Leadership Skills: Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and empower one’s self. In addition, must be a strong communicator and be able to take the initiative to function without day-to-day guidance.
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work productively under minimal supervision
