Job Summary:
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith’s mission by: Playing a key role in, and possibly leading small (i.e. < $25,000) GIS needs assessments or other GIS consulting activities such as strategic plans, upgrade evaluations, etc. Leading group and individual discussions with clients to gather data Evaluating requirements and developing conceptual designs for systems and applications that will address requirements Supporting business process modeling efforts Assisting with hardware/software recommendations and specifications, and developing pricing for and/or ordering hardware and software Possibly assisting with the development of hardware and/or software testing algorithms, and performing testing Conceptualizing and designing moderately complex databases, including designs that incorporate spatial data Reviewing data sources for project activities of moderate complexity and recommending approaches for data conversion, migration/manipulation, quality control, quality assurance, etc. (for review by others) Developing conceptual designs for applications or performing coding for portions of applications, or for simple applications in their entirety Possibly duplicating and modifying existing applications for new clients, particularly browser-based applications Possibly developing application testing plans and testing applications Supporting end users for specific applications Training CDM Smith staff and clients, primarily in one-on-one situations Possibly managing small to medium (<$100K) projects Overseeing the work of one or two interns and/or junior GIS staff Possibly assisting with proposals and participating in interviews Taking a role on projects and client interaction that will contribute to follow-on work.
Minimum Qualifications:
A successful CDM Smith candidate will have: B.S./B.A. or M.S./M.A. in computer science, geography, geology, engineering, planning, mathematics, government, or a related field 4 years’ experience applying GIS technology with B.S., or 3 years’ with M.S. Familiarity with most or all of the following tools: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, UML Tools, ArcInfo 9.x, ArcEditor 9.x, ArcView 9.x, ArcGIS Extensions, Model Builder, ArcPad, GPS Unit, Internet Explorer, VBA for ArcGIS, ArcIMS, Autodesk MapGuide, Avenue. Thorough understanding of the FEMA Mapping Information Platform as well as FEMA Guidelines and Specifications. Experience completing FEMA quality reviews 1-8. Strict attention to detail where errors are not easily corrected Excellent time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. / M.A. in geography, computer science, geology, planning, mathematics, engineering or a related field
- GISP or ESRI (Desktop, Developer or Enterprise) Certification
- CFM Certification
- Basic programming/scripting in HTML5, Python, XML, and JavaScript
- 5+ Years FEMA RiskMap experience
