Land Use Technician

Job Summary:

Clark County is seeking a full-time Land Use Technician in the Planning and Zoning Department. The Land Use Technician will work with the Land Use Specialist and assist in reviewing soil tests and Private Onsite Waste Treatment System (POWTS) plans for approval, performs construction inspections for POWTS installations, perform violation inspections, maintenance of data into the county geographic information system (GIS), communicates with property owners, and recommends corrective actions, and provides information and other assistance to the public concerning land use permits and other related land use regulations.

Requirements:

An Associate’s degree in civil engineering, soils, natural resources or a related field is required. The County may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. A Certified Soil Tester and POWTS Inspector credential from the Department of Safety and Professional Services is also required (must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire). Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

The successful applicant must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability and willingness to work in field conditions which require exposure to environmental factors, be able to communicate and constructively interact with co-workers, contractors and the public, effectively read and interpret statutes, administrative code, component manuals, and county ordinance, and have excellent written communication skills in order to write routine reports and correspondence.
