Duties & Responsibilities:
Instruction (80%)
- Teach two online courses in the GIS Professional Programs each term (fall, spring, and summer, six course sections total a year).
- Potential courses include:
- Geog 574: Spatial Database
- Geog 575: Interactive Geovisualization (Web map development)
- Geog 576: Geospatial Web and Mobile Programming (Web and mobile GIS tool and application development)
- Geog 777: GIS Capstone (Problem-solving class)
- Other program courses as needed
Program Service (20%)
- Semester-to-semester curriculum maintenance including online module, software, and lab updates.
- Contribute to GISPP programmatic design and curriculum planning
- Attend regional and national conferences to help market the programs and learn the latest technologies
Qualifications:
Candidates should be trained and/or have experience in web mapping, python programming, mobile app development, and spatial databases. Teaching experience in higher education, with professional students, and/or online is preferred. Technical skills in (1) web cartography and web GIS, (2) GIS scripting, (3) spatial databases, and (4) mobile app development desired. Must have excellent online communication skills, be willing to help keep the curriculum up to date, and be a collegial coworker.
Candidates with a majority of the following proficiencies are particularly encouraged to apply:
- HTML/CSS/JavaScript
- Python and/or R
- Java and/or Objective-C/Swift
- Spatial Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and/or Oracle)
- Web Mapping APIs: Leaflet.js, Google map API, D3.js, ArcGIS API, Mapbox, and/or CARTO
