Job Summary & Duties:
Come join our team as an IS Resources Technician – Intermediate (GIS Database Technician)! This Limited Term Employment (LTE) position is located in the Bureau of Highway Maintenance within the Division of Transportation System Development, which is located at the Hill Farms State Office Building at 4802 Sheboygan Avenue in Madison.
This position will be responsible for the organizing and accurately importing data from local systems into a statewide GIS database. Other responsibilities for this position will include taking data from several local data sources – Excel spreadsheets, Access databases, PDF documents – and running macros against them to organize them, before exporting them into a statewide ArcGIS application. This position will also be responsible for verifying the quality/accuracy of the data.
Qualifications:
- Strong data analysis skills
- Knowledge of practices in GIS: technology, concepts, techniques, related databases, and cartography
- Knowledge of Excel and Access: technology, applications, connections, relational databases
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written communication
- Ability to create and follow a standard procedure
- Ability to organize and complete a project
- High level of skill and ability with attention to detail
- Familiarity with culvert maintenance and engineering concepts and practices helpful, but not required
Additional Information:
This is a Limited Term Employment position, which is limited to 1039 hours in 26 consecutive pay periods (1 year maximum).
Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
