Job Summary:

The Project Surveyor I is a developmental position that assists the Project Manager by conducting office and field activities under direct supervision. In this role, an employee will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency within the following responsibilities and competencies.

Duties:

  • Understand project scope by conferring with project team members and Project Manager.
  • Prepare survey documents and computations associated with boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, topographical surveys, etc.
  • Research project information.
  • Review and evaluate survey field notes with supervisor.
  • Utilize computer and related survey software packages.
  • Attend meetings with project team.
  • Prepare survey drawings and descriptions utilizing AutoCAD and other related software packages as directed.
  • Provide construction-related services including:  construction plan interpretation, preparation of cut sheets, compute point data to provide to field crews and communicate with Client.
  • Use and understand surveying terminology by reviewing applicable reference materials and location specific statutes and requirements and by communicating with other survey staff.
  • Use and understand surveying procedures and regulations by following appropriate Atwell Standard Operating Guidelines, as well as local and state guidelines.
  • Ensure product quality and Atwell reputation by following the Atwell Product Quality Manual and established standards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge:
    • Attend educational workshops.
    • Review professional and market segment publications.
    • Establish personal networks.
    • Participate in applicable professional societies and trade associations.
  • Achieve performance objectives by meeting or exceeding designated chargeability and hours worked, as indicated on Performance Objective form.
  • Contribute to team effort.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying or related field.
  • 5 years of experience required.
  • Surveyor In Training (SIT) preferred.
  • Professional Licensed Surveyor preferred.
  • Proficiency as a Survey Crew Chief.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Land Development Desktop or Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrate accountability and dependability by completing tasks and assignments accurately and on time, following up as appropriate, taking responsibility for actions, meeting deadlines, following company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Highly proficient in mathematics and measurements.
  • Knowledge of care, cleaning, and use of a variety of surveying tools and equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in the principles of performing basic surveys (i.e., leveling, traversing, etc.).
  • Highly proficient in basic plan reading (i.e., topographic surveys, boundary surveys, etc.).
  • Knowledge of survey ethics and technical standards.
  • Knowledgeable in construction procedures.
  • Highly proficient in required safety procedures and practices.
  • Maintain a current driver’s license in good standing.
  • Workload management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Illustrate initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Adherence to Product Quality Standards.
  • Previous survey or survey-related internship experience desired.
  • Have an understanding and application of the following technical skills:  Boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, leveling, traversing, GPS, total stations, data collectors, computers, email, CPR Training, first aid basic training, tree identification, legal descriptions, plan interpretation, real estate document interpretation (e.g. deeds, easements).
  • Ability to complete surveying related documents with guidance from senior Project Surveyor, Project Manager or Team Leader  including:  Boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys and legal descriptions
  • Ability to train and mentor Survey CAD Technicians and other junior level staff
