Job Summary:

This position will focus on the management and growth of TRC’s Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team within our growing Geo-Environmental & Civil Engineering team. This position will include roles as senior designer on projects, business developer, and/or project manager.

Duties:

  • Develop staff, including goal setting, performance evaluations, mentoring, and recruiting.
  • Direct supervisor of designers, CAD/GIS specialists, and visualization experts.
  • Plan and control work processes, including the following:
    • Implement safety protocols.
    • Maintain backlog reports.
    • Manage resources to meet utilization objectives.
    • Lead process improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure quality control procedures are implemented.
    • Mentor and monitor standard operating procedures.
  • Team with upper management to develop strategy and tactics to grow the practice.
  • Manage projects, including financial management, contract negotiation, directing technical work, and client and regulatory liaison.
  • Perform as a technical resource in field of expertise and mentor to others.
  • Achieve utilization of at least 60%.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, and Engineering (or a related field).
  • Five years of prior experience in consulting services required.
  • Organizational, communication, and design skills will be essential to efficiently produce quality outputs while meeting budget and schedules on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Knowledge of the use of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, including but not limited to the development of horizontal and vertical alignments, grading, profiles, sections, pipe networks, quantities, surfaces, and knowledge of CAD Standards.
  • Knowledge of GIS software including but not limited to proficiency and experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS for Desktop suite of software, understanding of relational data management systems, implementation and development of map services for webmaps and mobile applications, and experience with manipulating data for use on GPS units.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to embrace change.
  • Ability to manage conflict with staff and clients.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Consistent ownership and follow through to manage assigned tasks.
  • Strong writing abilities, along with good oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to travel as needed. Must be able to use automobile and plane transportation. Will be required to work on client sites that require walking and some climbing.

Preferred

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
  • Confidence and professionalism to challenge management on areas of business concern and accept/support decisions to move TRC positively forward.
  • The ideal candidate will also be enthusiastic to work with engineers, hydrogeologists, project managers, and other technical staff in the preparation of drawings, designs and figures associated with technical documents.
