Job Summary:
Milwaukee County has a GIS Technician position available in the Land Information Office. This is a 40 hour a week limited term employment position. The position serves as the GIS support for the Milwaukee County Asset Management Program. The GIS technician will respond to the requests from the Milwaukee County departments that are using the County asset management program, Cityworks. The Technician will develop data repositories, create web based and mobile applications, and collect data from the field.
Job Duties:
- Data conversion of CAD facility and utility drawings, historical maps, microfilm, and pdfs into an enterprise GIS facilities and utilities management database.
- Development and design of geodatabases to support data development effort.
- Develop and design ArcGIS Online interfaces to support Milwaukee County GIS activities.
- Creates reports and develops presentations for GIS projects, demonstrations and exhibitions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, GIS or Computer Science;
- One (1) year of experience in Enterprise GIS;
- Knowledge of esri desktop, esri ArcGIS online is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in the use of ESRI’s ArcGIS suite of software specifically, ArcGIS 10.x using SDE in a SQL environment; Microsoft Office applications specifically Access and Excel;
- familiarity with AutoCAD and conversion processes between AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of information systems as related to the GIS function and database management in an ESRI platform.
- Ability to organize material, analyze a wide variety of information, and develop database schemas to support data.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with supervisors and staff with an ability and willingness to anticipate future needs.
- Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, follow supervisors instructions, and consider larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, reports, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to execute decisions within limits of standard policy and procedures
- Ability to speak effectively before both internal and/or external groups.
- Ability to interpret and adapt to established practices and procedures using independent judgment to meet situations to which applications are not clearly defined.
