Job Summary:
Geography and location are a part of nearly everything we do. Anoka County GIS creates and manages the geospatial data that is used in essential services such as: E911 call routing, police and fire response, addressing, US Census counts, voting, and public health.
Utilize your problem solving and analytical skills as part of a team of professionals who support county departments, cities, watershed districts, businesses and other clientele by providing innovative and efficient solutions using GIS. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the maintenance of the enterprise GIS database using ESRI ArcGIS software
- Use ArcGIS Server to configure and publish map services
- Manage feature layers and web maps in ArcGIS Online
- Develop GIS web applications using ESRIs Web AppBuilder
- Develop geoprocessing models and scripts to automate common GIS tasks
- Prepare data for regular updates of local and regional collaborative datasets
- Serve county departments, external agencies or the public by creating custom maps and datasets, analyzing data, and leveraging GIS to solve business problems with a geographic component
- Support the TriTech E911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system by working with E911 staff to determine data needs and providing regular updates to E911 datasets
- Assist the Anoka County Surveyors Office with survey related tasks as needed
- Represent the GIS department at internal and external meetings and workgroups as needed
- Create documentation for metadata and workflow processes
- Train county staff on various GIS platforms including ArcGIS, Pictometry and ArcGIS Online
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a closely related field
- At least two years of GIS experience using ESRI ArcGIS software
OR
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to four years of experience in a GIS position
AND
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS or Geography
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge
- ESRI Suite of GIS Software including ArcGIS Desktop 10.x (including ModelBuilder), ArcGIS Server 10.x, ArcGIS Online, Web AppBuilder
- SQL Server relational databases and ESRI geodatabases (personal, file or enterprise)
- Programming/scripting experience with SQL and Python is highly desirable
- AutoCAD Civil 3D (not required but must be willing to learn)
- Land information records including the use of PLS, half section maps, plats and legal descriptions
- Microsoft Office Suite

- Work as part of a team to provide GIS services to internal and external clientele
- Take direction from the GIS Coordinator and work independently on multiple projects

- Utilize GIS software to make maps, create mailing lists, analyze trends, query data, geocode, and visualize geospatial data
- Communicate technical information in a non-technical way to County staff or the public
