Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst for our Analytics department located in Skokie, IL. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

Some projects we’ve developed include a fully automated corporate quality and efficiency dashboard that allows our entire organization to interact with our quality and cost data through Tableau; predictive models to identify chronic disease patients at risk for hospitalization; a beautiful visualization platform that allows physicians to easily identify at-risk patients and take action to assist them; a tool that helps surgeons analyze their patient’s temperature; GIS visualizations such as a tool called ‘What’s Going Around’ which gives clinicians real-time displays of syndromic epidemiology in our Electronic Medical Record; and a method of identifying and reaching out to patients with unrecognized high blood pressure (for which we received a Healthcare Informatics Magazine Innovator Award and a recent mention by the Director of the CDC in the New England Journal of Medicine).

Our tools include SQL, Tableau, R, Python and Boundless GIS. Regardless of the tool, we find that our projects are most successful when they serve a well-articulated need and are integrated right into clinical workflows – especially into the Electronic Medical Record system (Epic).

This new role will have the opportunity to jump right in to the sorts of projects described above. You need not have prior experience in healthcare; in this role you’ll learn a great deal about both healthcare and analytics.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in analytics-based quality improvement projects that leverage data collected from NorthShore’s electronic medical record to measure and predict patient outcomes
  • Communicate directly with clinical experts and IT professionals to help determine feasibility, timelines, and costs of quality improvement projects
  • Gather business requirements by conducting meetings/interviews, and facilitating large group/cross-functional sessions with customers, while containing the scope of the initiative
  • Produce datasets and reports that will facilitate evidence-based clinical and financial decisions
  • Work with statisticians and mathematicians to design predictive models using statistical and machine learning methods that will predict patient outcomes
  • Work with clinical experts to analyze data that will help drive decisions on patient centered interventions and NorthShore’s quality goals and performance
  • Work with IT and data warehouse experts to design and develop new summary tables and data marts in NorthShore’s Enterprise Data Warehouse

Qualifications:

  • Strong intellectual curiosity
  • 4 year college degree in information systems, computer science, mathematics, finance, statistics, or related field
  • 2 years of experience with data warehousing, business intelligence, programming, or statistics experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency writing SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, or other database experience.
  • Experience and understanding of data sources including 3rd party RDBMS, MS access, SQL server and oracle
  • Strong analytic, problem solving, negotiation, issue resolution and facilitation skills are required
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication and decision making skills
  • Statistical or mathematical skills or experience working with statistics packages (SPSS, SAS, R etc) is a plus.
  • Experience in leading projects that span cross-functional teams is a plus
  • Familiarity with healthcare industry or healthcare information systems is a plus
