Job Summary:
The Siting and Land Rights department at Xcel Energy is seeking a part time Geospatial intern. The successful candidate will focus on development of a Land Management GIS Inventory while also assisting in legal description mapping, data creation and preparation for utility features, suitability modeling and site location analysis along with database maintenance.
Duties:
- Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for various projects with a primary focus on Land Management
- Conduct field visits to review and update GIS Land Management Inventory data
- Translate legal land descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) data to cartographic representations
- Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures
Qualifications:
- Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or GIS
- Completion of GIS II or an equivalent course
- Experience producing maps using ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator and other mapping-related software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Reliable and able to prioritize and work independently
