Job Summary & Duties:

This position works with Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, or related software systems and programs to create and maintain data and/or maps. The Mapping & Spatial Data Specialist must have a strong attention to detail, showcasing a high level of accuracy along with organization skills. Critical for success are the abilities to provide excellent customer service and maintain open communication with internal and external customers.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Promotes Core values, leads by example, and is an ambassador for Technical Services Department and Michels Corporation.
  • Create and analyze maps using GIS related software.
  • Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed.
  • Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observations, satellite imagery, aerial photographs and existing maps.
  • Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.
  • Complete accurate and legible documentation of all required documentaion within a timely manner.
  • Document and email restoration schedule to the utility company in a timely manner.
  • Present information to users and answer questions.
  • Support staff with answering questions and problem solving.
  • Interact with customers, industry peers.
  • Performs field observations to include locating and procedure for the lifetime of utility, measuring and drafting.
  • Assist Foreman with administrative duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication to collaborate with various levels of management and proficiency in computer software skills specifically with MS Excel and Adobe platforms. Applicant must possess a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
