Job Summary:
The City of Whitewater is accepting applications for a GIS Technician intern position in the Neighborhood Services Department for the Summer 2018 and 2018/2019 school year. Hours: 30-40 hrs/wk during the summer and 10-15 hrs/wk during the school year.
Duties:
Duties will include (list is not comprehensive):
- Collection, post-processing/correction, and conversion to GIS of physical infrastructure features of the City using Trimble GeoXH global positioning system (GPS).
- Create maps and exhibits as needed by City departments, partners, and the public.
- Assist GIS Technician with field work which may include surveying, inspection, coordination with contractors and other departments.
- Scanning plan sets & project files and incorporating them into GIS.
Qualifications:
- Candidates should be enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree in geography, forestry, urban planning, civil engineering or similar program. Alternatively, the candidate may hold one of these degrees.
- Candidates should have demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS 10.3 software, as well as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Experience with the following is a plus: GPS Unit, Geodatabase experience, ARCGIS Online, and file conversion from CAD to ESRI formats.
- Candidates must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and must be reliable and able to work independently.
- Candidates must have the ability to problem solve in the field with common sense and efficiency.
- Candidates must have the ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
