Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the County’s GIS (Geographic Information System) System. This includes researching necessary sou rce documents; importing/converting of data supplied by other departments, agencies, etc. and entering necessary geographic information through the use of ESRI and related software into the County GIS system; formats and outputting that data to support various functions and County departments.

Duties:

  • Assist users to properly use recently created GIS programs.
  • Provide both user and system documentation.
  • Document all new and existing GIS system changes.
  • Maintain arc, polygon and point geographic coverages through the use of digitization and coordinate geometry and related methods using ESRI and related software programs.
  • Create/plot maps using cartographic skills to portray data in an understandable format.
  • Import/export/convert data from various sources.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Additional training in Geography, Surveying, Drafting, Urban Planning or related field desired. Experience with ESRI, AutoCAD or similar products, and Microsoft Office desired. One year experience with Geographic Information System software desired.

  • Ability to assist staff members and the public in the use of GIS applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Requires ability to monitor accuracy and quality of data.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts1 and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
