Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifies requirements and implements advanced analytical techniques necessary to solve complex Geographic Information Systems (GIS) issues.
  • Develops and modifies GIS software applications and interfaces.
  • Provides technical user support for all aspects of geospatial data and software.
  • Works actively to bring consistency to all geospatial data.
  • Coordinates locally with managers, natural resource specialists/technicians and IT staff to identify GIS hardware and processing needs and develop plans for required upgrades.
  • Assists in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long- and short-term planning and management activities.
  • Promotes and implements an integrated training program to teach basic skills in the use of GIS software, data acquisitions, retrieval and analysis to meet local needs

Qualifications:

For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-07 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience applying the principles and practice of computer-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis and computer-assisted cartography to the design of digital map products.

OR

Substitution of Education for the Specialized Experience Requirement: A master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

For GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-09 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience independently applying the principles and practice of computer-based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis and computer-assisted cartography to the design of digital map products.

OR

Substitution of Education for the Specialized Experience Requirement: Master’s degree (or equivalent graduate degree) or 2 full years of graduate education (leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree) in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks may be used to meet experience requirements.You must clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades.
