Job Summary:
The Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture is seeking an experienced Landscape Architect with a track record of teaching college level Landscape Architecture courses for a faculty associate position. This renewable full-time, 12-month appointment will carry teaching and service responsibilities.
Duties:
Instruction
The Faculty Associate will be expected to teach two courses each semester and one course each summer in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture. Course assignments may vary, but could include subjects such as design applications of GIS, geospatial and data visualization technologies, design studio, and regional design. The Faculty Associate will fulfill general responsibilities related to teaching, which include developing lectures and class materials; creating a class schedule and syllabus; posting and holding regular office hours; holding student conferences; providing written and verbal feedback on evaluation materials; and grading exams, projects, team work, and oral presentations.
Program Development and Support
The Faculty Associate will support the Landscape Architecture program through participation in program assessment and development, updating curricula, independently developing new courses and course materials to meet the changing needs of Landscape Architecture students, engaging in appropriate assessment activities to ensure quality and consistency in teaching, and assisting with annual accreditation reviews. In addition, the Faculty Associate will work with program faculty to support the integration of new technologies into the curricula.
Other Duties
Active participation in department meetings and program committees, and new initiatives to enhance the quality and visibility of the Landscape Architecture program
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required, PhD desired; at least one degree to be in Landscape Architecture or closely related design field.
- Strong preference will be given to those candidates with two or more years of recent experience teaching advanced college-level courses in Landscape Architecture or closely related field.
- The candidate must demonstrate competency in the use and application of GIS (Geographic Information System), geospatial and data visualization technologies to design problems, and the ability to incorporate instruction in such technology into the curriculum.
- Instructional experience in on-line or distance-learning courses, including asynchronous and synchronous formats is desired. Candidates must demonstrate enthusiasm, understanding and competency with Landscape Architecture principles and methods.
- Candidate must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical capabilities, especially related to GIS, geospatial and data visualization technologies.
