Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Surveyor will perform various land survey and land survey-related functions on projects of various sizes, from Design-Build and Transportation projects to smaller site rehabilitation projects. The Surveyor can expect to work with both internal and external customers on these projects, taking them from start to finish by conducting research and performing field work.

Payne & Dolan is looking for a self-motivated, problem-solver that looks for the most cost effective, efficient method to meet our customer’s needs. The successful candidate should have a background in land surveying. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in the following roles and responsibilities.

Duties:

  • Interacting with clients to determine scope of services and assisting in fee estimate and proposal generation.
  • Researching public records to determine existing property boundaries, easements and other property information.
  • Performing various types of land surveys, such as boundary surveys, topographical surveys and construction surveying, including layout staking and structure layouts.
  • Filing necessary permit applications and handle permit agency communication as requested by client.
  • Drafting surveys and performing calculations including lot dimensions, areas, volumes, cut and fills.
  • Creating and recreating proposed surfaces for construction layout purposes.
  • Work with Project Managers and Project Engineers to understand project instructions and responsibilities, scope of work, scheduling and budget.
  • Coordinate project requirements (tasks, duties, budgets, schedules, etc.) with team members and provide assistance to complete required tasks.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Minimum two year Associate Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Wisconsin Professional Land Surveyors license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing civil site and transportation layout and planning on projects of various sizes.
  • Commercial & residential site planning/site development experience.
  • Storm water and erosion control design experience.
  • Must be a reliable, efficient self-starter with initiative and a sense of responsibility.
  • Strong communication and time-management skills are required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record

Preferred

  • Transportation & Utility design experience.
  • Experience with setting control and creating surfaces for machine control.
  • Michigan Registered Land Surveyors license.
