SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Geospatial Technician LTE is a position within the Defense & Intel sector of CMC. CMC is looking for both recent graduates and current students. The Geospatial Technician LTE will extract feature and/or terrain data from a variety of sources and conduct research to fully prepare the data for our clients. This is an entry level position where project specific training will be provided! The Geospatial Technician LTE will be producing data and products in accordance with customer’s requirements to be completed on time and within budget. The candidate will possess strong technical skills, having an understanding of and experience with the manipulation of geospatial data. While working on assigned projects the Geospatial Technician LTE will work closely with the Project Lead and Quality Control staff, reporting current status, any quality concerns and address other project related items. The Geospatial Technician LTE will report directly to their Team Lead on daily work related activities. The Geospatial Technician LTE is required to learn the GIS tools needed to complete assigned tasks and demonstrates a willingness to improve their workflow and quality.

Note: LTE positions are temporary in nature and the conditions for these appointments do not necessarily provide for attainment of permanent status. Permanent employment status is executed on a person by person basis, based on merit over the first 6 months of employment and production resource needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Extract feature and/or terrain data from a variety of sources using ArcGIS (ESRI) software
  • Conduct research to full prepare and populate attribution from available sources using ArcGIS (ESRI) software
  • Assist in GIS work procedures/checklist updates and/or creation
  • Perform GIS product finishing tasks to client content and quality specifications
  • Conduct peer review of data prior to QC where applicable

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in completing assignments.
  • Outstanding organizational skills; strong ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines; high level of personal initiative to follow-through.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and respond to problems as they occur with diplomacy, common sense, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, recognizing problems and finding solutions.
    • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong understanding of spatial relationships, in the real world and databases.
  • Python/programming experience

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Minimal job experience. Entry level. GIS Cert, Associates or Bachelor’s Degree, or in a GIS college program currently.
  • Required: ESRI ArcGIS, Microsoft Office suite
  • Optional: QGIS, ESRI Data Reviewer, ESRI Workflow and Task Assistant Manager Extensions, ESRI Topological tool sets, GIS Conflation Techniques, Cartographic Map Compilation, Arc SDE/Server, ESRI Database Schema Mapping, GIS Open Source data research techniques.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS     

  • Part Time – 20+ hours per week / Full Time – 40 hours per week / OT possible
