Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS) is seeking a student employee to help in the conversion of legacy GIS data to prepare it for release online.

The goal of this project is to convert legacy geologic map data to a current GIS format and prepare it for distribution online. The student will collaborate with WGNHS staff in converting vector datasets into an updated geodatabase format and schema, including re-organizing features, adding new attributes, checking topology, and converting or creating metadata. They will help develop ways to script and otherwise automate parts of this process. They will also write detailed documentation.

Qualifications:

This position requires strong written communication skills, familiarity with editing attributes in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, and an interest in geology or natural resources.

In addition, a basic familiarity with the following topics would be useful, though not required: editing topology in ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, and scripting in python or another scripting language.

Additional Details:

This student position will require about 10 hours per week through the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters. Schedule will be flexible between 8 AM and 5 PM, and some work could be done remotely. Starting pay is $11 per hour.
