Job Summary:

This position creates and revises county and municipal planimetric maps produced by the Geographic Information and Mapping Section using computer mapping software and cartographic techniques to provide accurate and current map information support for the agency’s transportation planning, design, construction and maintenance functions. Responsibilities will include assisting in the update of municipal boundaries, GIS map support, the development of the statewide multimodal plan, updates to the office’s website, updates to the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) Program, and responses to customer requests.

In addition, this position provides assistance to the Office of Transit & Active Transportation in the creation, revision, collection, processing and dissemination of bicycle mapping and data in a state and county format map for all of Minnesota.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Transportation Planning or Computer Science and demonstrates the experience described below; OR
  • An Associate’s degree in Geography, GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Transportation Planning or Computer Science AND six months of professional work experience in CADD/GIS, Surveying, Mapping or Cartography that demonstrates the experience described below; OR
  • One year of professional work experience in CADD/GIS, Surveying, Mapping or Cartography that demonstrates the experience described below.

Experience must include:

  • Experience in cartographic principles and production including familiarity with layout standards, annotations, pdf manipulation, online mapping, map projections and coordinate systems;
  • Experience capturing and converting geographic data through operating GIS and CAD systems;
  • Knowledge of and skill in creating/soliciting, processing, analyzing and managing spatial data and corresponding Metadata;
  • Knowledge of GIS skills in representation and symbolization;
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with diverse agencies engaged in multi-modal planning and research; and
  • Effective oral and written communication skills sufficient to provide information to the supervisor, coworkers and customers.

Preferred

  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS 10.5.1 or current version
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with Web Development and Design, Dreamweaver
