Job Summary:
Under general direction of the Land Information Director, develops and maintains the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) data for the Forest County Potawatomi; produces maps, collects, interprets and maintains data. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Duties:
- Prepares GIS plans, strategies, goals and objectives in accordance with applicable tribal, federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Maintains the GPS and GIS databases in the form of geospatially referenced maps, navigation coordinates, and 3D modeling.
- Collects data using the Global Positioning System.
- Processes collected field data to produce new GIS data layers; edits existing data layers.
- Creates data using surveying notes, aerial photography, satellite data, GPS Data, tabular data and various maps.
- Interprets data in various formats and correlates it within GIS.
- Generates maps from source data.
- Creates and distributes reports on data as needed.
- Attends meetings regarding spatial data management.
- Coordinates with other programs to support project’s needs.
- Works with employees and departments on the operation of GPS units, GIS System and GPS related software.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Keeps abreast of new technologies in order to provide tools for efficiency in daily operations
- Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Education & Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Geographical Information systems or related field, plus two years’ work experience in Geographical Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems. Current valid Wisconsin driver’s license. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

- Knowledge of traditional form of government, customs and traditions.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of cartographic/mapping systems and related software
- Knowledge of mapping symbols, standards, and terminology
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.

- Skill in operating plotters and drafting instruments
- Skill in operating GIS/GPS hardware and software programs.
- Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
