Job Summary:

The Assistant County Surveyor is responsible for assisting the County Surveyor in the management and administration of key elements of operation, planning, supervision, and coordination of responsibilities and personnel of the Survey Division.

Duties:

The Assistant County Surveyor is responsible for assisting the County Surveyor in the management and administration of key elements of operation, planning, supervision and coordination of responsibilities and personnel of the Survey Division. Also assumes the responsibilities of the County Surveyor in the County Surveyor’s absence.

Qualifications:

Required 

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in land surveying, civil engineering or a related field and four years of related experience; or approved two-year course in land surveying or civil engineering from an accredited college or technical institute and seven years of related experience.  Three years in directing projects required. Managerial experience and supervisory or coordinating experience in the areas of land surveying, and land development required. Possession of a current license to practice land surveying in Minnesota is required.

Preferred

  • Paid work experience in development and maintenance of the United States Public Land Survey System or survey infrastructure such as geodetic control networks
  • Paid work experience in the preparation or review of subdivision and Common Interest Community plats and/or the overseeing and directing of plat preparation or review
  • Paid work experience interpreting and explaining state statutes, professional standards, regulations, rules and legislative changes relative to land surveying, land development and geospatial data
  • Paid work experience with supervisory duties such as prioritizing work and schedules of staff, assignment of tasks, recruitment, selection and training of staff, establishing performance standards and goals, evaluating staff performance, and determining and implementing corrective actions as necessary
  • Paid work experience with the development and maintenance of parcel map databases, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or land records management systems
  • Paid work experience with the preparation of documents such as Certificates of Survey, Right of Way Plats, legal (land) descriptions and professional reports
