The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Fisheries Management is hiring a Spatial Data/GIS specialist. The position will be filled via two 50%-time job postings. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply to each position. Details are listed below, with links to each position at the bottom.

Duties:

  • Work independently and with others to evaluate, modify, update and improve upon the following fisheries spatial layers and data systems: trout stream classifications, trout regulations, species distribution layers, trout habitat projects, streambank easements, parcels, and any new layers. Document data clean up and data processing procedures.
  • Maintain and develop Fisheries Geocortex applications or fisheries spatial apps.
  • Create maps for fisheries staff as needed.
  • Update trout stream classification maps and trout regulation maps for regulation pamphlets and DNR websites.
  • Collaborate with the database coordinator to assemble and enter streams and rivers regulations data in a spatial dataset. Design and build the streams and rivers (including Great Lakes tributaries, warmwater rivers, trout streams and warmwater stream sportfish) regulations GIS layers. Evaluate existing data sources for completeness and accuracy. Work with others to develop and evaluate appropriate mapping tools and databases for these GIS layers and user interfaces. Document data entry and data processing procedures.
  • Maintain and develop streambank easement data system
  • Attend Division and Department GIS meetings and participate actively on teams. Update the fisheries bureau on important issues related to GIS.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Proficient in ArcGIS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, use of email
  • Ability to work independently and with others

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Geocortex
  • Database skills (e.g. Microsoft Access, Oracle)
  • Knowledge of fisheries and habitat management principles or related field
