Job Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director of GeoSpatial Services, the Photo Interpreter/GIS Analyst interprets hardcopy and digital remote sensing images (aerial and space based) in order to develop ArcGIS spatial databases of classified natural features, land cover and/or land use activities for use in natural resource applications. They collect, verify and analyze field data as part of survey teams in order to improve interpretation accuracy and validate the final classified data. The Photo Interpreter/GIS Analyst also serves as a resource for supporting other projects that require natural resource data collection and classification from remote sources.
Duties:
- image interpretation, delineation and classification of wetlands and other natural features;
- application of federal wetland mapping standard Classification of Wetland and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin, 1979) and other classification systems as required;
- managing photography and GIS databases;
- application of the principles wetland science, hydrology, soil science, vegetation identification and geomorphology in support of image interpretation, classification and assessment;
- project scheduling and team assignments;
- quality assurance and control;
- performance monitoring;
- participating as a team member in GIS product design, maintenance, and development; and,
- potential for teaching workshops or classes.
