Job Summary:

GIS Professional Programs (GISPP) in the Department of Geography is looking for an innovative, experienced, and high-energy Instructional Designer to help us develop online, credit and non-credit courses in GIS, cartography, geo-visualization, spatial data collection, and spatial data analysis.

GIS Professional Programs (GISPP) in the Department of Geography at UW-Madison oversees all Professional GIS programs in the department, including two online GIS Capstone Certificates, and an Online Master’s in GIS Development. Due to the success of our programs, we’re growing both in curriculum and in students.

Duties:

  • Work with instructors and faculty to develop, update, and enhance online GIS courses
  • Work with GISPP staff to develop, launch, and manage non-credit, online GIS courses
  • Manage our Lifelong Learning Portal
  • Manage our Community of Practice Website
  • Record, edit, and produce educational and webinar videos for GISPP
  • Manage pre-course and post-course surveys and teacher evaluations for all GISPP courses
  • Analyze and tabulate the course survey and evaluation results
  • Make recommendations for course upgrades based on student feedback
  • Design interactive learning modules for courses where appropriate
  • Participate in community conversations and discussions online
  • Ensure that our courses meet minimum quality control guidelines for best practices in online courses

Qualifications:

Required

  • Academic training in instructional design or learning design
  • Two years of experience working as an instructional designer in higher education
  • A background in using and/or teaching GIS technologies
  • Demonstrable experience designing course storyboards
  • Experience working with content providers (SMEs) across a diverse array of courses
  • Experience using Articulate Storyline, Rise, and other Articulate software
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
  • Experience working as a subject matter expert in cartography and/or GIS

Preferred

  • Academic background and experience in GIS and cartography
  • Experience and familiarity with the Esri GIS ecosystem
  • 3-5 years of experience designing online courses as an instructional designer
  • On-the-job experience integrating instructional design technologies into Canvas LMS
  • Experience creating innovative assessment tools
  • Experience designing online courses for non-traditional and professional students
  • Willingness to telecommute and share an office when required to be on campus
  • A go-getter! Task-oriented person who is dependable and doesn’t require constant supervision to get the job done
