Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Dean of University Transfer Liberal Arts and in collaboration with other faculty, the Geography/Geology Instructor will teach in the University Transfer Liberal Arts associate degrees and provide general education for occupational associate degrees and technical diploma programs at the Rhinelander Campus and designated outreach locations.

This faculty position will be responsible for providing lecture and laboratory instruction in a variety of courses including, but not limited to Geographic Information Systems, World Regional Geography, Human Cultural Geography, Physical Geography Weather and Climate, Physical Geology, Wisconsin, and Physical Geography Landforms.

Duties:

  • Develop, maintain, and deliver competency-based instruction in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophy of Nicolet College in the disciplines of geography, geology, and other sciences/social sciences.
  • Develop and improve the University Transfer program and general education offerings by working collaboratively with other faculty, staff, and administrators through program reviews, curriculum and course development, assessment of student learning, advisory committees, data analysis, and student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Deliver instruction as assigned on the main campus or at other outreach locations to a variety of class sizes during the day or evening, on weekends, and through distance learning.
  • Design courses for online delivery, including lab science courses.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process and pursue professional development that is discipline-specific, enhances teaching and learning practice, and expands expertise in other academic fields of interest to the faculty member and the college.
  • Use technology, including multiple delivery methods, to enhance teaching and learning, as well as other aspects of work.
  • Coordinate with other faculty members to support seamless transition of students between lower and higher level courses.
  • Participate in department, program, and college level activities, projects, and committees.
  • Assist students by providing advice regarding their academic career path and career opportunities.
  • Represent the college to communities and external organizations including district high schools and employers, the University of Wisconsin System and other 4 year colleges, the Wisconsin Technical College System, Native American tribal communities, advisory committees, and professional groups related to the field.
  • Promote seamless transfer of courses and liberal arts degrees to baccalaureate degree granting institutions.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, student success, and scholastic records of students and submit required reports according to published deadlines.
  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of new or modified programs/courses.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Geography, Geology, or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Geography or Geology.
  • Ability to teach Geographic Information Systems, World Regional Geography, Human Cultural Geography, Physical Geography Weather and Climate, Physical Geology, Physical Geography Landforms.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and effectively teach students of varied ages, learning styles, academic levels, and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability and motivation to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships across the College and in the district.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Geography or Geology.
  • Experience teaching GIS and/or integrating GIS instruction in other disciplines.
  • Graduate level training in additional general education disciplines.
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary setting.
  • Experience developing online courses.
  • Experience using alternative delivery methods such as online, video conferencing, and hybrid.
