Reference Point Coding Technician – LTE

Job Summary:

Working with another Reference Point Coding Technician, this position is responsible for the maintenance and recording of crashes and other data elements on the State Highway Reference Point System. The Reference Point System provides reference points for crashes that occur on the State Highway System to be used for highway safety planning by state and county highway safety engineers to design safer highways.

Duties:

This position will evaluate the integrity of the data in the crash database, identify and resolve incomplete or incorrect data, communicate with highway engineering personnel and enter crash information into the crash database.

This position will require some knowledge of GIS practices, IT processes, motor vehicle laws, and procedures relating to timely and accurate reference point coding of crash locations. This position must use independent judgement and analysis in performing the job functions.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate will have knowledge and skills in the use of computers and geospatial programs, extensive knowledge in reading maps and use of mapping software and research/ analytical problem solving skills.

Well-qualified candidates will have a basic understanding of on/at (link/ offset) location referencing methodology or other similar referencing methodologies and/or working knowledge of ArcMap and/or WisDOT Reference Point System.
