Job Summary:
Performs duties related to GIS dataset creation, synchronization and maintenance, including performing quality assurance and quality control tasks. Uses GIS to determine routing of wireless 9-1-1 calls. The position requires depth and breadth in all associated technical skills. It requires knowledge of the application of GIS programming toolkits as well as advanced skills in the use of computer hardware and software technology in general; however actual programming skills are not required. Works in close coordination with the MESB 9-1-1 Data Coordinator.
Duties:
- Apply GIS technology to determine appropriate routing for wireless 9-1-1 calls and coordinate routing information with wireless database companies.
- Use GIS tools to synchronize 9-1-1 GIS datasets.
- Perform tasks related to quality assurance and quality control of 9-1-1 GIS datasets, maintaining data integrity and accuracy.
- Daily review and approval of data updates which affect 9-1-1 call routing or location validation.
- Manage personal workload, adjusting priorities as necessary to complete projects on time while participating in on-going projects, contributing to overall Board goals and activities, and responding to MESB customer requests as needed.
- Respond to technical problems by taking ownership in the problem, applying logical problem-solving skills and techniques to diagnose the nature of the problems and working IT to find solutions or additional resources to solve the problem.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field and a total of five years experience including:
- Two years demonstrated skill in map creation using GIS software; AND
- One year demonstrated skill in ESRI ArcGIS products. Additional GIS environments related to products competitive to ESRI may be substituted including Intergraph, AutoCad, Bentley, and MapInfo; AND
- One year experience manipulating GIS data, integrating various data formats, and organizing and manipulating data using database products such as ArcSDE, MS Access, SQL Server, Oracle, or other enterprise DBMS; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and demonstrated skills, specifically related to experience to total nine years.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or related field.
- Knowledge of the operation of the 9-1-1 system, as well as the structure and function of public safety agencies and PSAPs.
