Job Summary:

Under the direction of the GIS Coordinator, the GIS Intern assists the with the implementation of projects related to the collection, maintenance and analysis of the City’s GIS data, including data collected remotely in the field.

Duties:

  • Assists with GIS projects including development and editing of GIS data.
  • Completes assignments related to GIS including creating, editing and updating features in geodatabases and creation of map exhibits for various City departments.
  • Quality control over data created and edited.
  • Data conversion between various systems.
  • Complete project tasks assigned by the GIS Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an Associate’s degree program in geography, urban planning or a similar technical degree program.
  • Enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in geography or urban planning from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Ability to work with the ESRI ArcGIS 10.x application, including advanced editing skills.
  • Ability to use database management tools.
  • Familiarity with Geodatabases, GPS, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Ability to work with engineering construction plans and geometric networks.
  • Knowledge of Auto CAD systems and file conversion to ESRI formats.
  • Experience with word processing computer software programs. Microsoft Excel, Word and Access preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and human relations skills required.
  • Flexible work schedule during regular business hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
