Job Summary:

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), is currently hiring for a GIS Data Analyst position that will provide lead technical GIS support for the Office of Environmental Stewardship (OES).  The Office of Environmental Stewardship provides environmental leadership to protect and preserve the quality of our environment, supports healthy communities, conserves natural resources and encourages economic growth.

Therefore, in this position, you will be responsible for developing, organizing, converting, and updating geospatial data related to products and services that are currently published by OES, and for identifying, cataloging, and converting geospatial data utilized by OES staff that is published by other sources.  Additionally, you will be responsible for guiding decisions regarding the long-term management of OES geospatial data and applications.

Qualifications:

Required

Must have at least two years of professional GIS experience demonstrating the below bullet points. A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Planning, or Computer Science may substitute for one year of professional experience.

  • Experience in cartographic principles and techniques to include map datum, projections and coordinate systems
  • Broad technical knowledge of the inter-related elements and automation of surveying, mapping, cartography and land survey;
  • Experience researching, interpreting, assisting and/or training others in cartographic techniques, interpretation of municipal corporate boundary descriptions and other land descriptions, USGS products, aerial photography, road construction plans, R/W maps, land survey data
  • Experience capturing and converting geographic data through operating GIS and CAD systems.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of spatial concepts, applications, how spatial data is stored, integrated, manipulated, viewed, and analyzed.
  • Knowledge and ability in capturing and converting GIS data through operating GIS (preferably ESRI).
  • Proficient problem solving skills using data analysis.

Preferred

  • A bachelor’s or graduate degree in geographic information systems, geography, computer science or closely related field.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Collector app, Survey123 app, or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge with computer-aided design and drafting (i.e., CADD) files and software platform.
  • Knowledge and skill in creating/soliciting, processing, analyzing and managing vector and raster GIS data and corresponding metadata.
  • Knowledge of environmental science and principles, such as conservation, invasive species, soil science, contaminated materials, hydrology, cultural resource management, or similar. Knowledge should include common data limitations and analytical assumptions.
