Job Summary:

 

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for Civil Engineering and the willingness to take their career to the next level.  Supervision will be directed by the Utility Project Engineer but will need to be able to work independently.  You will perform surveying, construction inspection, plan review and design for public works projects.
Duties:
  • Inspect public works construction projects to ensure compliance with City contracts and specifications as well as other requirements. Takes measurements, monitors and records material quantities and other required information.
  • Assist in the design of the water system, sanitary sewer system, and other public works infrastructure improvements using AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Operate total station, level, transit, a global positioning system (GPS) and other surveying equipment.
  • Read and obtain data from certified survey maps, plats, and engineering/architectural drawings.
  • Recover surveys and other recorded legal documents from City and County records.
  • Prepare assessment reports (both preliminary and final) for construction projects.
  • Assist in the preparation and updating of plans and specifications for public works and other departments such as parks and planning.
  • Provide the public, developers, and City agencies with information pertaining to the municipal water and sewer systems and Public Works projects.
  • Maintain permanent water and sanitary sewer system records, including, but not limited to, record drawings, maintenance records, and plant value.
  • Prepare record drawings of completed construction projects.
  • Operate and maintain the Geographic Information System (GIS) and iWater for the Utility which includes using ArcGIS and AutoCAD software to perform a wide range of technical functions.
  • Create and maintain the Utility infrastructure databases and map documents.
  • Provide utility mapping services.
  • Researches and provides information on alternative design measures.
  • Provide assistance to the Utility Project Engineer, Utility Supervisor, and Director of Public Works as needed.
  • Provide assistance and information to project engineers, City staff, the public, and Council as needed.
  • Assist with DNR reporting.
  • Mentor utility engineering intern to assist them with completing public works related duties.
  • Responsible for construction quality control.  This includes but is not limited to the responsibility to make judgment calls on various construction phases, including undercut, erosion control, and other field decisions that relate to weather, subbase stability, and/or material quality.
  • Responsible for preparation of pay requests for public works projects.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology.  At least 5 years of experience.  Additional education beyond an Associates Degree in an engineering related field may substitute for experience.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and maintain during the entire course of employment.
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) or equivalent certificate desired.
