Job Summary:
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hiring a GIS Project Manager to work within our Division of Forestry, located at 101 S. Webster St, Madison. The Division of Forestry works in partnership to administer programs that protect and sustain our forested lands throughout the state, combining a variety of expertise to help meet the many demands on the forest both today and for many years to come.
The Division of Forestry’s GIS Project Manager has an aptitude and desire to lead project teams in the development of specialized geospatial IT applications to ensure the Forestry Division and its partners can streamline their business functions.
Qualifications:
Required
- Documenting IT/GIS projects including creating project charters (e.g. project summary, business case, scope, deliverables, milestones, goals, objectives, success measures, risks, and/or mitigation strategies)
- Translating business needs from users into technical requirements and specifications for use in developing custom IT/GIS applications, including development of artifacts (e.g. requirements documents, use case documents, user stories, flow diagrams)
- Project planning including creating work breakdown structures, time and cost estimates, project timelines, return on investments, etc.
- Working with a team of diverse professionals and subject matter experts, non-technical customers and clients
Preferred
- Experience / expertise in business process analysis and project management methodologies, gained from geospatial projects
- Managing or participating in projects using an agile software development methodology through the entire IT project lifecycle
- Experience working in a Natural Resources-related field
- Experience working with project teams that are located in remote offices
