Job Summary:

A half-time (20 hours/week) Information Systems Data Services position with the Bureau of Applied Forestry, will design and implement databases for a variety of forestry research studies. The position will use skill and technical abilities related to Arc GIS software to review and analyze spatial datasets and independently build geodatabases. The successful candidate will be expected to resolve technical problems and work with Forestry Research staff to independently lead data analyses. Datasets will include studies investigating oak wilt and Eastern Hophornbeam.

Duties:

60% Spatial database creation 

  • Design and implement spatial data inventory systems
  • Develop and manage standard geographically-based datasets
  • Provide technical support of GIS software

15% Spatial data analysis 

  • Analyze data using GIS software
  • Analyze spatial data using analyses provided by forestry research staff

15% Data Reporting 

  • Create Arc Story maps using Arc GIS
  • Present findings at statewide meetings, agency events and regional conferences.

10% Coordination of field personnel 

  • Assist in the hiring and coordination of seasonal field crews

Qualifications:

Required

A well-qualified applicant should have experience working in spatial data processing using ESRI GIS products. Required experience includes extensive knowledge of building spatial databases and analyzing spatial data. Additional expectations include demonstrated organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

Preferred

Desired skills include experience working with natural resources and specifically, with forested systems. The ability to cooperate and collaborate with others to accomplish a shared goal is necessary. The ability to effectively cooperate and collaborate with others to accomplish a shared goal; positive attitude; and the ability to complete high quality work and adhere to a timeline with little supervision. Experience in Natural Resource Management, or closely related field.

Note: This half time (20 hours/week) position may be hired in conjunction with the Research Data Specialist position – Job ID 13215 to work full time (40 hours/week).
