Job Summary:

The GIS Specialist will conduct basic GIS operations, standardize GIS data, initiate QC processes on geospatial files, digitizing, data entry, search/extract geospatial data from various sources, and create/model new files using standard GIS procedures as instructed. The specialist may also be required to modify existing software routines created by HazardHub to add functionality, GUIs, and other enhancements.

Duties:

The GIS Specialist will perform the tasks outlined in the above position summary in an independent manner without direct supervision. The specialist will grow and learn new skills as projects evolve. A Supervisor will meet with the specialist to develop the scope, tasks and duties, data sources, outcomes, and time requirements at the beginning of each project. The Specialist must demonstrate the ability to work independently in a project-based environment.

Qualifications:

Geography major/minor. Other majors considered. Basic/Advanced GIS courses. Medium to advanced skills in QGIS. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain file security and confidentiality. Python and other GIS programming skills are required. An intense curiosity about data and GIS technology is required. The ability to handle multiple tasks while not slowing down.
