Job Summary:

Responsible for creating and maintaining maps of Lake Region’s electric distribution system by using the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning Software (GPS) technology to ensure accurate system information and maintain the Gopher State One Call (GSOC) database.

Duties:

  • Familiar with the general responsibilities and required knowledge inherent in the position.
    • Maintain proficiency in the use of GIS software, current GPS technologies, Auto CAD software, and other applicable engineering software.
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of engineering standards and codes.
    • Familiar with Rural Utility Services (RUS) construction specifications and established procedures of the cooperative.
    • Familiar with the Cooperative’s mapping terminology including location codes, township designations, circuit diagrams line codes, etc.
    • Use radio communication equipment in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.
    • Wear proper clothing in all types of weather to maintain good health and maintain acceptable appearance for good member and public relations.
    • Give consideration and care to member’s property at all times.
    • Develop familiarity with all equipment used to perform required tasks and maintain the equipment in good condition.
    • Assist in other projects as requested by the VP Engineering and Operations.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Develop routines and libraries with the Geographic Information System (GIS) software to ensure drawing consistency and efficiency.
    • Develop and maintain file management system for GIS data.
    • Develop routines to provide automated efficiency.
  • Update and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) maps, diagrams, and specification drawings to ensure accurate information is available regarding Lake Region’s system.
    • Create and maintain drawing files for overhead and underground construction specifications including bill of materials for inventory construction units.
    • Update and distribute substation circuit diagram maps as needed or requested.
    • Obtain information from staking sheets to update maps on a regular basis.
    • Prepare one-line diagrams for wiring schematics, metering diagrams, flow charts, etc. as requested.
    • Create line models for Outage Management System (OMS).
    • Assist IT with support related to mapping on iPads.
  • Develop and maintain the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to obtain information about the Cooperative’s service area.
    • Update the Cooperative’s system with current releases of the AM/FM/GIS software.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining customized menus and a symbols library to ensure mapping consistency.
    • Develop query routines for obtaining geographical information.
    • Maintain knowledge of mapping, surveying, and coordinate systems.
  • Obtain and integrate field data by using the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
    • Collect field inventory data by operating the GPS equipment.
    • Integrate field collected GPS data into database as required.
  • Utilize the Cooperative’s staking sheets to update the Cooperative’s Gopher State One Call (GSOC) mapping databases.
    • Maintain the GSOC mapping databases for the Cooperative.
    • Submit electronic file as required to update GSOC mapping databases.
    • Plot various maps or drawings as required.
  • Support Operations Dispatch easement process
    • Check all easement requests on Laredo software to determine ownership of property.
    • Plot easement coordinates on map.
    • Draft and mail easement to customer.
    • Record easement with proper County Recorder’s office.
    • Submit the proper fees for payment.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate in Applied Science Degree with concentration in GIS technology and/or 2 years work
    experience with ArcGIS software.
  • Experience with Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office 365
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, township maps, etc.
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Speak, read and understand English
  • Maintain a valid drivers license
