Responsibilities

As a Cartographic Technician, with the Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Performs processing of raw image files, orthorectification of processed imagery and color balancing of referenced imagery. Performs collection, interpretation, and analysis of data generated by various remote data collection sensors, including manned-aerial flights and unmanned aircraft systems.
  • Prepares of modifies maps using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. Compiles, reviews and produces digital spatial databases, metadata and other digital cartographic products.
  • Participates in accuracy assessment planning for testing vegetation maps, and compiles, edits, and processes the results of the accuracy assessment. Works with field crews to monitor data collection.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of complex studies and investigations concerning biological and physical processes that affect ecosystems.
  • Gathers, organizes and interprets a wide variety of biological ecological, public use data or other information pertinent to scientific studies or investigations. Gathers, analyzes, tabulates, and summarizes ancillary data sets.

Travel Required

50% or less – An average of 5-10 nights per month.

Appointment type

Term – This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months/years with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
