Job Description

TRC is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated GIS Coordinator to provide technical support for clients and fellow TRC staff. The GIS Coordinator must have a minimum of 10 years of experience applying GIS technology in the environmental sector. The GIS Coordinator is expected to have excellent managerial skills to coordinate the work of GIS staff to complete project tasks. The GIS Coordinator works closely with project managers, clients, and GIS staff to ensure that quality and timely GIS support is provided on all projects. The GIS Coordinator must keep abreast with current GIS technology and is responsible for inspiring and enabling innovation among members of their team.

Job Tasks Include

  • Facilitate collaboration among GIS professionals
  • Develop/maintain standards and manage peer review process for GIS professionals
  • Liaison between GIS professionals and other TRC staff
  • Assist with the maintenance GIS software and cloud infrastructure
  • Research, identify, and implement new technology
  • Identify GIS staffing needs, interview prospective hires, etc.
  • On-board training for new hires and continuing education training for existing staff
  • Provide GIS technical support for projects
  • Provide GIS technical assistance for GIS professionals
  • Develop proposals and cost estimates for prospective work
  • Conduct/participate in annual performance review for GIS staff
Requirements

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or other related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years GIS or related work experience.

Required GIS Competencies

Advanced GIS Analysis/Model Building: Able to utilize GIS applications to perform advanced spatial analysis or data conversion or manipulation. i.e. raster/surface manipulation, mosaic, modify and repurpose imagery for other software. Able to use applications and scripts to create automated geoprocessing workflows.

Application of GIS/Problem Solving: Able to translate client needs to solutions using GIS technology. Able to identify the best tool for the job based on experience and knowledge of what is possible.

Geodatabase Development & Design / Data Models: Able to utilize GIS applications to build a GIS, i.e. data mining, geodatabase design, data conversion, etc. Able to define data requirements needed to support business processes within the scope of corresponding information systems in organizations.

Web Applications/Services: Able to create map services and interactive web applications.

Desired GIS Competencies

IT/Cloud Infrastructure: Able to perform administration tasks for existing IT/Cloud infrastructure, identifies and implements new technology appropriate for supporting GIS team and clients.

Travel and Workplace

The majority of the work will be performed out of our Madison, WI office and will require occasional travel to other locations for customer visits or training. The ideal candidate would reside in Madison. Strong candidates will be considered in other locations.
