Job Description:

  1. Create and implement a GIS Annual Objective’s Plan on a daily and annual basis.
  2. Build and maintain a Geodatabase of Ho-Chunk Nation: parcels, land use, leases, zoning, addresses, forestry , prescribed burns, wildlife, wild fires, land posting, archaeology, cemeteries, enrollment, environmental issues, and utility lines on a daily basis.
  3. Provide a GIS interactive webpage for Ho-Chunk Nation employees to reference geographical information on a daily basis.
  4. Develop the GIS lab by acquiring hardware and software by utilizing grants and the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) sponsored software program on a quarterly basis.
  5. Collect, download/upload, and edit GPS data on a daily basis.
  6. Schedule and coordinate GIS continuous training program utilizing the BIA sponsored training schedule and attend GIS seminars to enhance GIS skills on a quarterly basis.
  7. Apply technical expertise to provide training, access, and support to GIS users in regards to mapping and GPS products on a weekly basis.
  8. Map out new potential new land acquisitions before each Land Development meetings on a bi- weekly basis.
  9. Update the Ho-Chunk Nation Hunting Packet on an annual basis.
  10. Submit Boundary and Annexation Survey to US Census on an annual basis.
  11. Create custom maps as requested in a timely manner on a daily basis.
  12. Perform other duties assigned as relevant to job description on a daily basis.

Qualifications: Must possess a GIS Bachelor’s Degree including coursework in DGPS and databases, ex: Civil Engineering, Cartography, and Geography. Valid Driver’s License, dependable transportation, and proper insurance. Must have experience collecting, downloading, and editing DGPS field data, preferred experience with Trimble hardware and TerraSync/ Pathfinder software. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily sedentary in an office setting. Some physical exertion (walking, bending, climbing, and lifting) may be required when visiting site locations. This work may entail long hours under a time constraint. There is occasional need to travel to isolated areas and over rough terrain.
