GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The City of Madison Engineering Division is looking for an hourly GIS Specialist 1 to join our team and assist us in mapping the City’s critical infrastructure and developing processes to streamline existing workflows.

HOURS: This is an hourly position with a flexible schedule offering 20 to 38.75 hours per week during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Schedule will be based on the needs of the Division and the selected candidate’s availability.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create, edit, and maintain infrastructure and other data in ArcGIS.
Use aerial photography to quality control (QC) existing data sets and heads up digitize new features into ArcGIS.
Go through various Access or SQL databases to QC, clean up and add data using a variety of CAD/Raster/GIS source data.
Use GIS editing, cleaning, and topology routines to QC and fix infrastructure data.
Read engineering plan & profile sheets to update sanitary and storm sewer information.
Create comprehensive static maps and interactive webmaps utilizing ArcGIS.
Recommend process improvements.
Utilize scripting tools to automate tasks.
Participate on project team to develop new tools and work flows to automate the conversion of CAD design data to GIS.
Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Three (3) years of combined education and/or experience with GIS and geo-spatial principles.
