Position Summary:

The Department of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a Lecturer for the 2020–2021 academic year with expertise in at least three of the following areas:

1. Regional Geography
2. Physical Geography
3. Sustainability
4. Social and Environmental Justice
5. GIS

The effective date of appointment is August 24, 2020.

Responsibilities:

This is a teaching-focused position which will prepare and teach four classes per semester from among current offerings in the areas noted below with opportunity for both in-person and online offerings to accommodate the uncertainty of the current COVID-19 pandemic. One of these courses is an alternative delivery offering of World Regional Geography for the fall 2020 semester, while the remaining courses will be determined in collaboration with the Department Chair.
University of Wisconsin-Platteville emphasizes the role of undergraduate research as a powerful approach to teaching and the candidate may also propose a small research seminar. Our department has a strong tradition of providing field experiences and hands-on research opportunities to undergraduate students, particularly for students from groups underrepresented in science and higher education. The ideal candidate will continue these traditions in their teaching.

Requirements:

1) Masters or PhD in Geography, Environmental Science, or closely related field; 2) clear ability and interest in contributing to the department’s emphasis on exceptional undergraduate education through high-impact practices, particularly field experiences and/or undergraduate research; and 3) a demonstrated commitment to diversity in teaching, professional conduct, and student mentoring.
