GIS Systems Development Specialist

Position Summary:

This position will be primarily responsible for developing and providing GIS-based services and performing GIS-based functions for the Wisconsin State Park System and the Bureau of Parks and Recreation Management. Duties will include the development of data systems to collect, analyze, and present GIS data. This position will maintain and provide GIS data as well as develop new applications to present GIS data to staff and the public.

The DNR would like to hire this position in tandem with the GIS Data Services Specialist. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for both positions.

Responsibilities:

• 50% – Development of data systems to collect, analyze and present GIS data
  – Create and maintain data collection and cartographic standards. Develop methods and program to collect and update GIS data for Bureau of Parks and Recreation lands. Work through internal processes on approval of program. Work with field staff and potentially volunteers to implement program.
• 25% – Maintain and provide GIS Data
  – Ensure data is current and available for internal and external use, in formats and using methods specified by stakeholders. Work with the Bureau of Technology Services to build and maintain Enterprise data, for example for trails and for hunting on Bureau of Parks and Recreation Management lands.
• 25% – Develop new applications and other methods to provide and present GIS data to staff and the public
  – Investigate and propose applications for providing public access to mapping of program properties and recreational uses on Department of Natural Resources public lands.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

•  Expertise in using ESRI tools and data structures
• Experience in creating GIS databases
• Experience with GIS data processing and maintenance
• Knowledge of geographic reference systems

Preferred Qualifications:

•  GIS database infrastructure creation experience
• App development experience
• Experience managing GIS projects
