GIS Technician – Seasonal

Job Summary

GIS technicians collect and update data using ESRI and Trimble GPS technology and inputs data from plan sheets to utility databases. Work is performed under general supervision of the Public Works Department Supervisors for efficiency and quality, in addition to Public Works GIS Analyst and Asset Management Specialist. Exercises no supervision. This position is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week that begins in May and ends when the season is completed (fall timeframe).

Examples of Duties

• Field collect and update GIS data, using ESRI and Trimble GPS technology.
• Will perform desktop editing with ArcGIS for Desktop, data entry in various platforms, document scanning, and other related tasks.
• Collects highly accurate, high quality spatial information, including location and attributes of public structures.
• Most functions of the job will require staff to be outdoors, utilizing GPS technology, and walking between assets.
• Performs GIS related tasks as requested, including but not limited to data entry and document scanning.
• Executes GIS hardware and software operations and maintains data quality control.
• Inputs data from plan sheets to utility databases.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid Class D Minnesota Driver’s License.
• Ability to pass driving record check and drug screen.

Desired Qualifications 
Experience using ESRI ArcGIS software.
