Description:

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a GIS Manager to join our team in our Minneapolis, MN office.  Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the operation of spatial analysis systems across Westwood’s service groups.
  • Supervise a team of GIS Specialists across multiple Westwood offices throughout the country, managing staff workload and training.
  • Spatial analysis will be about 50% of the job duties envisioned for this position, 50% will be managing and supporting direct reports. Utilization target of 75%.
  • The position will report to the service leader and take direction for project needs from various project managers. There will be an indirect reporting role to the National GIS Manager.
  • Work with other GIS Managers to develop and implement standards across the company, collaborate on shared workload, and develop and maintain standards and training for new GIS staff.
  • Provide guidance and training for staff who use GIS software but focus on other technical roles while utilizing a self-service model for their own GIS production needs.
  • You and your direct reports will be expected to:
    • Challenge current processes to develop new and more efficient processes
    • Work with end users, create mapping products, and perform complex GIS analyses using the ArcGIS Platform
    • Produce technically skilled and detailed solutions to include preparing clear, complete, and accurate representations of spatial data using hardcopy and/or electronic media.
    • Develop a complete understanding of product deliverables and mange requests from project teams anticipating information needs and presentation format as part of project workflows.
    • Develop and maintain geospatial data on desktop and mobile applications. Ensure data meets appropriate data accuracy and content standards for quality assurance and quality control.
  • You will work on energy projects, such as transmission, solar and wind, and land projects to compile available information for project proposals.

Required Experience:

  • Must have a degree in GIS, geography, environmental studies, or related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a GIS Specialist/Analyst, or a related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
  • Hands-on knowledge of ArcGIS Pro.
  • Strong understanding of shapefiles, geodatabases, hosted feature services, and Google Earth KMZ/KML files
  • Experience using ArcGIS Online including Survey123, Dashboards, StoryMaps, Hub, Field Maps, and Collector
  • Experience working with different coordinate systems, map projections, and datums
  • Familiarity with standard cartographic methods, theories, and principles.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple assignments, determine and set job task priorities, and work with limited direct supervision.
  • Experience using Arcade expressions, Python, ModelBuilder, or another common GIS scripting language, as job duties will include creating scripts to streamline frequently performed tasks.

Preferred but not required:

  • Previous work in/familiarity with consulting engineers, land surveyors, and/or environmental scientists.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and DWG files
  • Familiar with LiDAR datasets and usage
  • Experience as a consultant
