Description:
Dane County Land & Water has a current vacancy for an LTE GIS Mapping Technician. LTE’s are limited to 1200 hours of work in a payroll year, and there are no guaranteed hours.
Definition:
Under the direction of the Land & Water Resources Department, review and map conservation practices and nutrient management plans, digitize, edit and collect data on park facilities and park users, and create graphic exhibits including brochures, signs and maps.
Examples of Duties:
Utilize GIS and applicable software programs to digitally document and track agricultural conservation practices, nutrient management plans, park facilities, and park users. Track practices and facilities in GIS databases according to standard operating procedures; Evaluate spatial locations of practices and facilities and digitize information according to standard operating procedures; Use scripts to transfer data into applicable data management systems; Enter practice and facility information in data management system; Develop protocols to track agricultural conservation, park facility and park user data management; Perform GIS data collection and edits, including data collection via GPS and management of ArcCollector projects; Track park user data and user statistics; Scan documents to save in file management system according to standard operating procedures; Create and updates brochures and maps; Create and update signage; Provide General Administrative Support; Assist with web content edits and updates; Take engaging digital photos for web; other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements:
Two years of coursework, training or experience in Geographic Information Systems, geography, cartography, landscape architecture, surveying, civil engineering or related field.
Physical Demands:
Land & Water Resource Department requires the ability to work in the outdoors, including inclement weather and on rough terrain, and to operate equipment in the field. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Work Environment:
80% office, 20% field
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and techniques of coordinate system transformations and projections; knowledge of digital data input methods including coordinate geometry, knowledge of topological data structures and relational database management systems; familiarity with general principles of cartography and cadastral land records modernization; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to operate ESRI software as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to work effectively with others. Experience with ArcMap is required. Experience with ArcCatalog and ArcCollector preferred.
