GIS Intern

Position Summary

The Siting and Land Rights department at Xcel Energy is seeking a part time Geospatial intern.  The successful candidate will focus on development of a Land Management GIS Inventory while also assisting in legal description mapping, data creation and preparation for utility features, suitability modeling and site location analysis along with database maintenance. May do onsite property boundary inspections

Essential Functions

• Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for various projects with a primary focus on Land Management
• Conduct field visits to review and update GIS Land Management Inventory data
• Translate legal land descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) data to cartographic representations
• Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a college or university
• Sophomore or above. No graduate students will be considered.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Majoring in Geography or GIS
• Completion of GIS I
• Experience producing maps using ArcGIS, or other mapping-related software
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Reliable and able to prioritize and work independently

Preferred

• Experience using Adobe Illustrator
