Position Description:

The Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission (RPC) is seeking a Land Use Technician to assist the transportation planners and other staff with land use inventories and other projects related to the completion of various plans and programs. This would be limited term employment during the summer of 2021. The Bay-Lake RPC is now accepting applications for a temporary, grant-funded employee to conduct various planning activities.

The Land Use Technician will work closely with, and under the supervision of, the Transportation Planner III. Interaction with other Bay-Lake RPC staff (such
as the GIS Specialist, Transportation Planner I and the Assistant Director) may also occur within the position. The majority of the time will be spent in the office, with some time spent in the field.

Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  •  Complete an updated land use inventory of the Sheboygan metropolitan planning area, with the potential that this work could be expanded to include all of Sheboygan County at a later date.
  •  Additional duties, as necessary and assigned by staff.

Qualifications:

  • At least junior or senior status at a college or university, with major in urban and regional planning, geography/GIS, or similar academic concentration
  • Experience with land use inventory work (or similar field-to-GIS work experiences)
  • Experience with aerial imagery interpretation
  • Technology:
    •  Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams (Required)
    • ESRI Desktop Software (ArcMap, ArcPro, etc.) (Preferred)
  • Highly motivated and organized
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet project goals
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance

Hours: 20 to 40 hours per week over the summer of 2021

Schedule: Negotiable – Generally work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday.
